Chelsea have won most of the recent competitive meetings. The only Spurs win in that run came in a pre-season friendly in Sydney. In May, Enzo Fernández curled in a 20-yard opener and Andrey Santos added a second before Richarlison replied, as BBC Sport’s match report records. That result pushed Spurs’ survival fight to the final day.

Chelsea come into the derby on a high. They thrashed Bournemouth 5-1 and then won 2-0 at Everton on 17 October, with Pedro Neto scoring both goals. It was their first league clean sheet of the season. Alonso’s side have scored 17 times, the third-highest total in the division, but they have also conceded 13, which shows they still leave gaps at the back.

Tottenham had to wait until Matchweek 7 for their first league win: 3-1 against Frank Lampard’s Coventry on 19 October, with goals from James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies. Dejan Kulusevski made his return off the bench after 17 months out. Spurs have scored only six goals in seven games, the joint-fewest of any team outside the bottom two.

Two games define the modern rivalry, and their Chelsea vs Spurs highlights are still replayed every derby week. The first is the 2008 League Cup final at Wembley. Martínez needed surgery on a fractured jaw after a collision at Everton, so Mike Penders, who replaced him at Goodison, is expected to start in goal. Malo Gusto missed Everton through illness but should be back. Pep Chavarria’s fitness is still unclear after a training knock.

For Spurs, there is better news on Pedro Porro. Before the Coventry game, De Zerbi said: “Pedro, I think he’s coming. Maybe in Chelsea he can play.” Andy Robertson and Tosin Adarabioyo both went off against Coventry, but De Zerbi said: “They have no problem for Saturday.” Bentancur serves the second game of his ban after his red card against Manchester United.

Team news can change after Friday’s press conferences. Our football injury updates page is refreshed every morning with the latest from both clubs.

What are the predicted lineups for Chelsea vs Tottenham?

These are predicted lineups, not confirmed ones. The official Chelsea F.C. vs Tottenham lineups are released about an hour before kick-off, at roughly 4:30pm WAT.

  • Chelsea (3-4-2-1): Penders; Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill; Neto, Henderson, Caicedo, Hato; Palmer, Rogers; João Pedro.
  • Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Kinský; Van Hecke, Adarabioyo, Van de Ven, Robertson; Gray, Tonali; Kudus, Maddison, Marmoush; Solanke.

The key battle is in wide areas. Neto is in form for Chelsea, and Spurs may have to start a makeshift right side if Porro is not ready for 90 minutes. Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers will look for gaps between Tottenham’s midfield and back four, which is the same area where Spurs looked open against Coventry.

What is our Chelsea vs Tottenham prediction?

Our prediction is Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham. Chelsea have the better form, a stronger home record and the head-to-head edge. Spurs’ first win will have helped their confidence, and Chelsea’s new goalkeeper and leaky defence give the visitors a route to goal.

  • Result: Chelsea win. Six straight Premier League wins in the fixture and one Spurs win at the Bridge since 1990 make the hosts clear favourites.
  • Goals: both teams to score looks reasonable. Chelsea have kept just one clean sheet in seven league games.
  • Player to watch: Pedro Neto, who scored twice at Everton and set up Enzo Fernández’s goal in May.
